Dyad: Two bodies in close proximity.

A series of studies that explore the ways two bodies relate to each other through movement-based sound interaction.

Each study maps a different aspect of posture to a corresponding element of sound. Orientation to pitch generates a sequence of intervals out of relative facings. Tilt to tempo generates polyrhythms out of bowing. Acceleration narrates one-word-at-a-time. Touch builds harmonies.

The shifting harmonies and rhythms generated by the choreography give us a different way of knowing the ways we complement, counter, and connect with each other.

Walkabout (Orientation to Pitch)

Originally conceived of as set choreography, the first study which mapped the 360-degrees of possible facings to the diatonic scale was refashioned as a participatory experience. In this interaction a face-to-face encounter is both recognizable (an open 5th interval) and distinct from back-to-back (a 4th) which is distinct from front-to-back (an 8th or octave).

As participants move through the designated stations, they find themselves in a series of precise configurations that generates a progression of harmonies that oscillates between tension and resolution, expanding and contracting with each choice.
